Axel's take: 8.1/10

A dependable station-side base, with clean rooms and a few service shortcuts. a practical 4-star business hotel beside Berlin’s main station, scored for what it is.

IntercityHotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a practical 4-star business hotel whose biggest asset is making Berlin easy to navigate. We'd pick it for rail arrivals, early departures and sightseeing trips where convenience matters more than character. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms, helpful staff and a generous breakfast buffet. Rooms are functional rather than indulgent, but guests often find them surprisingly quiet for this station-side location.

The main compromise is housekeeping: guests across several sites report that cleaning needs requesting, with occasional missed requests. Standard rooms also draw complaints about missing tea-and-coffee facilities, and luggage storage now carries a charge. Breakfast can get crowded. It's a strong, straightforward base; we'd skip it for a romantic stay or if you expect attentive, full-service four-star treatment.

• Best for: travelers arriving or departing by train; business travelers; sightseers prioritizing transport connections

• Watch out for: housekeeping needs requesting; paid luggage storage; no tea-and-coffee facilities in standard rooms

• Location: A few minutes’ walk from Hauptbahnhof, with excellent connections across Berlin.

• Rooms: Functional, generally quiet rooms; standard rooms are 21 square meters, with courtyard-facing Business rooms available.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, although requested mid-stay cleaning is sometimes missed.

• Service: Staff are usually praised as helpful; housekeeping coordination is less consistent.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, bistro-bar, free Wi-Fi and meeting rooms suit a business-focused stay.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and luggage storage cost extra; check whether breakfast is included.
