#9 of 9 hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt by Axel's take. Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt is #2 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 7.9/10

A strong sightseeing base, but room renovations make the five-star experience uneven. a large, full-service 5-star on Gendarmenmarkt, scored for what it is.

Hilton Berlin is a large, full-service five-star on Gendarmenmarkt, and we'd choose it for sightseeing convenience rather than flawless luxury. Stadtmitte U-Bahn is close by, while Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Recent cleanliness feedback is reassuring, and the indoor pool and gym add substance beyond the central address.

The catch is room consistency. Guests still describe dated bathrooms and worn interiors alongside praise for refurbished rooms. Hilton's renovation schedule targets completion in the fourth quarter of 2026; management confirmed in July that remaining bedroom floors were being tackled progressively. Ask for a renovated room and check the current work schedule before booking. Parking and sauna access cost extra. It's a good fit for a practical city break, but we'd skip it if you expect uniformly polished five-star rooms or want to avoid renovation uncertainty.

  • Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; business travelers wanting a central base; families who want an indoor pool

  • Watch out for: ongoing phased bedroom renovations; uneven room and bathroom condition; extra charges for parking and sauna

  • Location: Gendarmenmarkt setting with nearby Stadtmitte U-Bahn and convenient sightseeing on foot.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds, but refurbished rooms coexist with older interiors; request a renovated room.

  • Cleanliness: Generally strong recent feedback, including repeated praise for clean bedrooms.

  • Service: Mostly friendly and helpful according to recent guests, though problem handling draws some criticism.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, gym, spa, restaurants and an executive lounge; sauna access carries an extra charge.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking, sauna and pets incur charges; confirm renovation activity and breakfast inclusion.
