#5 of 9 hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel by Axel's take. Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel is #4 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable central base with excellent breakfast, but compact rooms and uneven cooling. a practical 4-star business hotel near Alexanderplatz, scored for what it is.

This practical 4-star near Alexanderplatz is a strong pick for sightseeing without paying for luxury polish. Formerly H4, it now operates as Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz by Leonardo Hotels, following the September 2026 takeover. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the transport connections, comfortable beds, helpful staff and generous breakfast. We'd choose it for a short city break or business trip; the gym and sauna are useful extras.

The trade-offs are functional rather than glamorous rooms, limited storage and recurring reports of weak air-conditioning. Recent feedback remains broadly positive, though some guests flag housekeeping misses and reception queues. Standard rooms can feel tight for two people with luggage. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, dependable summer cooling or boutique character matter more than convenience.

  • Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; short business trips; travelers prioritizing public transport

  • Watch out for: compact standard rooms and limited storage; uneven air-conditioning performance; occasional housekeeping misses and reception queues

  • Location: A short walk from Alexanderplatz's trains, underground and trams; convenient for exploring central Berlin.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and good showers; standard rooms are compact, with some complaints about storage and cooling.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated, but recent guests occasionally report missed replenishment and grubby corridor carpets.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength; busy reception periods can mean waits.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar, generous breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, gym and sauna; think business hotel rather than spa retreat.

  • Fees and surprises: Now branded under Leonardo; breakfast may cost extra, nearby public parking is paid, and room service carries a surcharge.
