#4 of 9 hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel by Axel's take. Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel is #4 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong sightseeing base, with compact rooms and a well-liked breakfast. a no-frills city hotel near Alexanderplatz, scored for what it is.

This no-frills city hotel is a strong pick for exploring Berlin without paying for extras you won't use. Formerly H2, it now operates as Leonardo Smart Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz; Leonardo announced the takeover on September 15, 2026. Booking.com, Tripadvisor and recent Hotels.com guests broadly agree on its strengths: convenient transport, clean, functional rooms and a well-liked breakfast. We'd choose it for busy sightseeing days, especially with friends or family happy to share bunk-bed rooms.

The compromises are space and simplicity. Guests repeatedly mention limited luggage space, sparse seating and no in-room kettle, while breakfast can get crowded. Some also report street or corridor noise, so don't assume soundproofing guarantees silence. We'd skip it for a spacious, leisurely stay or serious in-room working. Check the bed configuration and whether breakfast is included in your booking.

Best for: short sightseeing breaks; families comfortable with bunk beds; travelers prioritizing public transport
Watch out for: compact rooms with limited storage and seating; busy breakfast periods; occasional street and corridor noise
Location: A short walk from Alexanderplatz's trains, trams and major sights.
Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms around 20 square metres; family options use bunk beds.
Cleanliness: Broadly positive across sites, including September and October 2026 guest feedback.
Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, though individual experiences vary.
Amenities: Breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, lobby shop, bicycle rental and underground parking.
Fees and surprises: Now branded Leonardo Smart; parking and pets cost extra, and breakfast inclusion varies by booking.
