#6 of 9 hotels in Neukölln by Axel's take. Neukölln is #11 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Neukölln, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 7.7/10

Good budget basics and helpful staff, but street noise is the catch. A budget hostel with dorms and private rooms beside Hermannplatz, scored for what it is.

Grand Hostel Berlin Urban is a budget hostel with hotel-style private rooms, not a conventional full-service three-star. It’s a good pick for exploring Neukölln and Kreuzberg without spending heavily: Hermannplatz’s U-Bahn connections are close, and food options are plentiful. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and good value, with cleanliness generally a strength. Air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathrooms make the basics appealing.

The main compromise is sleep: traffic and emergency sirens recur in reviews, so request a room away from the road. Some private rooms still draw complaints about worn bathrooms and mattresses; ask whether a refreshed room is available. Hostelworld feedback also suggests a quieter social scene than the marketing implies. We’d skip it for guaranteed quiet, polished interiors or an especially sociable backpacker stay.

  • Best for: Budget-minded couples booking private rooms; Travelers exploring Neukölln and Kreuzberg; Short stays with easy U-Bahn access

  • Watch out for: Street noise and emergency sirens; Uneven room condition; Limited social atmosphere

  • Location: Excellent transit access at busy Hermannplatz; better for neighborhood exploring than walking between major sights.

  • Rooms: En-suite dorms and private rooms with air conditioning; condition varies, so request a refreshed, road-facing-away room.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive across sites; one September 2026 Hostelworld review alleges bedbugs, without an established cross-site pattern.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are among the most consistent positives.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, lift, lobby bar and breakfast buffet; guest reports indicate no shared kitchen.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra unless included; dorm towels require rental, and nearby parking is paid.
