Axel's take: 7.9/10

A practical sightseeing base with dependable basics, but no air conditioning. A simple, limited-service city hotel near Checkpoint Charlie, scored for what it is.

Garner is a straightforward, limited-service city hotel rather than the full-service four-star the listing might suggest. We'd pick it for exploring Berlin: Checkpoint Charlie and Kochstraße U-Bahn are a short walk away, and recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and convenient transport. Rooms are functional rather than indulgent, and the overall guest feedback supports it as a good-value base.

The biggest catch is no air conditioning, repeatedly reported even in summer 2026; we'd skip it during hot weather if you sleep warm. Smaller rooms and shower cubicles can feel tight, while breakfast gets generally positive but not unanimous feedback. IHG also specifies limited housekeeping. Choose it for days out sightseeing, not extensive facilities or four-star pampering.

• Best for: Value-minded city-break travelers; Sightseers using public transport; Short stays in cooler weather

• Watch out for: No air conditioning; Compact rooms and shower cubicles; Limited housekeeping

• Location: Walkable to Checkpoint Charlie, with Kochstraße U-Bahn roughly six minutes away.

• Rooms: Functional rooms; IHG lists standard sizes of 15–23 square meters, and guests repeatedly report no air conditioning.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across review sites, despite occasional reports of stained carpeting.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff attract repeated praise; reception operates around the clock.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, a 24-hour bar and snack shop; no pool or on-site restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; dogs incur a surcharge, and there is no on-site parking.
