Axel's take: 7.5/10

A good-value Gap base, provided you can live with basic rooms and noise. A simple 3-star beach-and-nightlife base in St. Lawrence Gap, scored for what it is.

Time Out is a straightforward 3-star hotel across the road from Dover Beach, not a beachfront resort. It’s a good pick if you want beach days, nearby restaurants and nights out without paying for upscale surroundings. Recent Expedia and Agoda guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff and clean rooms, while the outdoor pool gives you somewhere to unwind between outings.

The compromise is room quality and quiet. Guests describe dated interiors, with some recent complaints about tired mattresses and bathroom maintenance. Noise is the more predictable drawback: Tripadvisor guests mention nightlife and early-morning cockerels, and the hotel itself warns about events at the adjacent playing field. Request an inward-facing or poolside room, though silence isn’t guaranteed. We’d skip it for a peaceful retreat or polished resort experience.

• Best for: Value-minded beachgoers; Nightlife-loving couples and friends; Travelers who spend most days exploring

• Watch out for: Nightlife, playing-field noise and early cockerels; Dated rooms and uneven mattress comfort; No elevator

• Location: Across the road from Dover Beach, with St. Lawrence Gap restaurants and bars close by.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; condition and bed comfort draw mixed feedback.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across recent reviews, despite occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent positives across sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, restaurant and bar, free Wi-Fi and free self-parking; breakfast plans are available.

• Fees and surprises: Tourism levy is collected at the property; breakfast and early check-in can cost extra.
