#2 of 4 hotels in Hastings by Axel's take. Hastings is #3 of 6 places to stay in Barbados. The best hotels in Hastings, ranked · Where to stay in Barbados

Axel's take: 8.2/10

Choose it for historic character and personal service, not beachfront convenience or polished luxury. A small historic boutique inn in hillside gardens, not a beachfront resort, scored for what it is.

Sweetfield Manor is a small historic boutique inn above Bridgetown, with individually decorated rooms, tropical gardens and a lagoon-style pool. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer a personal, characterful stay to a large resort. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and welcoming staff; the resident peacocks and PAVÃO restaurant give the property extra personality.

The trade-off is convenience and consistency. This is not beachfront: plan on taxis or a rental car for easy beach trips and evenings out. Peacocks can interrupt sleep, and the hotel hosts events, so ask what’s scheduled before booking. Recent guests also mention uneven maintenance, occasional shower problems and slow restaurant service. We’d choose it for a relaxed garden-based stay, but skip it for guaranteed silence, walk-out beach access or seamless luxury service.

Best for: Couples who prefer small, characterful hotels; Travelers exploring with a rental car; Short stays before or after a cruise
Watch out for: Not beachfront; budget for transport; Peacock calls and possible event noise; Uneven maintenance and dining pace
Location: Hillside setting in Brittons Hill near the Garrison; less convenient for beach access and evenings on foot.
Rooms: Individually decorated, air-conditioned rooms; some have private patios, with occasional shower and maintenance complaints.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest ratings and recent reviews, including repeated praise for spotless rooms.
Service: Staff are widely praised as welcoming and helpful, though dining and problem handling are not uniformly smooth.
Amenities: Lagoon-style outdoor pool, PAVÃO restaurant, spa treatments, Wi-Fi and free parking; no elevator.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists breakfast and airport transfers as extra, plus a local tourism levy; confirm inclusions and event dates.
