#6 of 6 hotels in Maxwell & Oistins by Axel's take. Maxwell & Oistins is #5 of 6 places to stay in Barbados. The best hotels in Maxwell & Oistins, ranked · Where to stay in Barbados
Axel's take: 6.7/10
A workable beach base, but tired rooms and limited evening dining hold it back. a budget 3-star near Maxwell Beach, scored for what it is.
Sunbay is a budget 3-star near Maxwell Beach, best treated as a simple base for exploring Barbados rather than a full-service resort. Included breakfast, two outdoor pools and the short beach walk give it practical appeal. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests often praise helpful staff and the quiet grounds, though the overall feedback remains mixed.
The recurring drawback is tired furniture and uneven room condition; cleanliness earns plenty of praise but isn't consistent. Several 2026 guests report no dinner service and limited nearby evening options, so plan to eat out. Management reported painting and maintenance across rooms and common areas in August 2026; confirm whether work affects your dates. We'd consider it for an unfussy, budget-conscious stay, but skip it for polished rooms, beachfront grounds or dependable all-day dining.

-
