Axel's take: 5.5/10

Useful budget basics, but cleanliness and upkeep are too inconsistent for an easy recommendation. a no-frills 2-star roadside motel beside I-35, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills 2-star roadside motel, best considered for a short, budget-minded stop with a car. Free parking, free Wi-Fi and pet-friendly rooms cover useful basics. Recent guests include satisfied repeat visitors, and friendly front-desk staff earn praise on several sites. Still, we'd treat it as a fallback rather than a dependable budget pick.

The problem isn't the lack of luxury: recent Expedia and Booking.com guest feedback includes repeated reports of cockroaches, smoke smells and neglected repairs, alongside clean-room reports. Some guests also describe parking-lot activity that made them uncomfortable. Nearby I-35 Capital Express North construction adds another driving complication. We'd skip it for a family vacation, a longer stay or whenever reliable cleanliness matters more than keeping costs down.

• Best for: budget drivers needing a short stop; travelers with pets who can tolerate uneven standards

• Watch out for: recurring pest and smoke-smell reports; worn rooms and parking-lot concerns; nearby I-35 construction

• Location: Car-oriented I-35 frontage-road setting; not a walkable downtown base.

• Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; recent feedback repeatedly mentions worn fixtures and maintenance problems.

• Cleanliness: Clean-room praise is offset by recurring recent reports of cockroaches, dirty surfaces and smoke smells.

• Service: Friendly front-desk staff are a recurring positive, though problem handling is uneven.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and parking, pet-friendly rooms and coin laundry; Booking.com lists an outdoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: Early check-in and late checkout can cost extra; no elevator, and nearby highway construction may complicate driving.
