#1 of 9 hotels in Kolonaki by Axel's take. Kolonaki is #4 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Kolonaki, ranked · Where to stay in Athens
Axel's take: 9.2/10
Thoughtful design and standout service make this a strong Athens boutique choice. a design-led 4-star boutique hotel in Kolonaki, scored for what it is.
The Modernist Athens is a design-led 4-star boutique in the former Canadian Embassy, and we'd put it high on the list for a quieter Athens base. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise genuinely helpful staff, spotless rooms, comfortable beds and an unusually good breakfast. The rooftop's Acropolis views add appeal, while nearby Evangelismos metro makes sightseeing straightforward without sleeping in the busiest tourist streets.
The trade-off is space and immediate access to the ancient sights. Entry-level rooms are around 20 square metres; choose a larger category if you're unpacking for several days, and check whether your room includes a balcony. Syntagma is roughly a 20-minute walk, with the Acropolis farther away. We'd skip it if doorstep access to Plaka matters more than a calmer neighborhood, but for attentive service and boutique comfort, it delivers exceptionally well.
-
Best for: couples who appreciate contemporary design; travelers seeking a quieter neighborhood base; families booking connecting rooms

-

-

-

-
Service: Warm, knowledgeable staff and useful restaurant recommendations are recurring strengths.
-
Amenities: Well-reviewed breakfast, rooftop bar with Acropolis views, café and 24-hour gym.
