#1 of 9 hotels in Plaka & Syntagma by Axel's take. Plaka & Syntagma is #2 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Plaka & Syntagma, ranked · Where to stay in Athens
Axel's take: 9.2/10
A standout small hotel for warm service, breakfast and exploring Athens on foot. a small, traditional 2-star boutique hotel in central Athens, scored for what it is.
Sweet Home is a small, traditional 2-star boutique hotel in a historic Plaka building, and we'd pick it for personal service rather than fancy facilities. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise spotless rooms, genuinely helpful staff and a generous breakfast with homemade Greek choices. Booking.com feedback reinforces the strong service and location: restaurants, shopping and the historic center are easily explored on foot, while guests often describe the hotel's little alley as surprisingly quiet.
The main compromise is space. The hotel lists Basic Doubles at just 14 square meters, and recent guests on multiple sites describe cramped rooms or windows facing walls. Choose the room category carefully; balconies and Acropolis views aren't standard. It's an excellent sightseeing base, but we'd skip the entry-level rooms if you need room to spread out.
-
Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; solo travelers who value personal service; travelers exploring Athens without a car
-
Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms; some rooms face walls or internal spaces; balconies and Acropolis views require specific categories
-
Location: Central Plaka alley near Ermou, with Syntagma and Monastiraki metro stations within walking distance.
-
Rooms: Traditional decor, air conditioning and kettles; Basic Doubles are 14 square meters, so category matters.
-
Cleanliness: Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly describe rooms as spotless and well maintained.
-
Service: Consistently praised for friendly advice, transport arrangements and practical help.
-
Amenities: Much-praised breakfast, free Wi-Fi, elevator and a small bar; this is a sightseeing base rather than a facilities-led hotel.
-
Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; airport transfers cost extra, a seasonal accommodation tax is collected, and there is no onsite parking.
