#8 of 9 hotels in Kolonaki by Axel's take. Kolonaki is #4 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Kolonaki, ranked · Where to stay in Athens

Axel's take: 8.0/10

Choose it for the rooftop views, not uniformly five-star rooms. a family-run 5-star hillside hotel in Kolonaki, scored for what it is.

St. George Lycabettus is a family-run 5-star hotel above Kolonaki, and we'd choose it for the setting rather than flawless luxury. Acropolis views from the rooftop pool and restaurant are the main draw, with neighborhood cafés, galleries and boutiques below. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, breakfast and panorama; cleanliness also scores well across booking sites.

The compromise is the room experience: sizes, outlooks and décor vary, and several guests find the accommodation too plain or tired for five stars despite ongoing updates. Choose your room category carefully; courtyard rooms do not deliver the landmark views. The steep walk back is another genuine drawback, particularly in summer, and the outdoor pool is seasonal. We'd skip it if you need easy, level sightseeing walks or consistently polished luxury interiors.

  • Best for: couples who prioritize Acropolis views; travelers exploring Kolonaki; summer city breaks with pool time

  • Watch out for: steep uphill return from sightseeing; uneven room sizes, décor and views; seasonal rooftop pool

  • Location: Kolonaki cafés, shops and museums nearby; the hillside position makes return walks demanding.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, but finish and size vary; book an explicitly named Acropolis-view category for that outlook.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings on Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com outweigh isolated complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across recent guest reviews.

  • Amenities: Seasonal rooftop pool, panoramic dining, spa and fitness center; confirm pool availability for your dates.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and some breakfast plans cost extra; a seasonally varying accommodation tax is collected at the property.
