#9 of 9 hotels in Koukaki & Makrygianni by Axel's take. Koukaki & Makrygianni is #3 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Koukaki & Makrygianni, ranked · Where to stay in Athens
Axel's take: 7.2/10
Choose it for the rooftop views and location, not polished five-star luxury. An old-school five-star sightseeing hotel near the Acropolis, scored for what it is.
Royal Olympic is an old-school five-star hotel whose strongest assets are its sightseeing location and rooftop, rather than consistently luxurious rooms. Opposite the Temple of Olympian Zeus and close to Plaka and the Acropolis Museum, it makes exploring Athens easy. Tripadvisor, Expedia and Agoda guests repeatedly praise the rooftop views; comfortable beds and the courtyard pool also earn positive mentions. It's a good sightseeing base if those strengths matter more than contemporary interiors.
The trade-off is recurring feedback about dated bedrooms and bathrooms, missing tea-and-coffee facilities and uneven service, particularly at reception. Cleanliness is generally rated well, although some guests report lapses. Check the exact room category: internal rooms have no windows, and a landmark view is not standard. We'd skip it for a luxury-focused stay where modern fittings and reliably attentive service are essential.
