Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical port stop with spacious rooms, but not polished five-star luxury. a traditional 5-star city hotel near Piraeus port, scored for what it is.

Piraeus Theoxenia is a traditional 5-star city hotel that makes more sense as a comfortable port stop than a luxury escape. We'd consider it for a night before a ferry or cruise: rooms are generally spacious, shops and restaurants are nearby, and guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff. Booking.com and Expedia ratings also point to dependable cleanliness, while breakfast earns mostly positive feedback.

The catch is condition rather than comfort. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly describe dated furnishings and bathrooms needing attention—noticeable shortcomings at this star level. Crucially, the hotel confirms its rooftop outdoor pool is closed for renovation throughout the 2026 season. Garage parking costs extra, and proximity to the port doesn't mean every cruise terminal is an easy walk. We'd skip it for a pool-led holiday or a special-occasion luxury stay.

• Best for: overnight ferry connections; pre-cruise stays; business travelers in Piraeus

• Watch out for: rooftop pool closed for the 2026 season; dated furnishings and bathroom wear; some cruise terminals require a taxi

• Location: Central Piraeus near shops, restaurants and ferry gates; check your specific terminal before planning to walk.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, but recurring reports describe dated decor and bathroom maintenance needs.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia outweigh scattered negative reports.

• Service: Helpful reception and breakfast staff are recurring strengths across guest reviews.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, gym and free Wi-Fi; rooftop outdoor pool unavailable throughout the 2026 season.

• Fees and surprises: Garage parking is charged and requires arrangement; local accommodation tax is collected separately, and breakfast inclusion depends on your booking.
