Good rooftop views and helpful staff, but the neighborhood and aging rooms compromise the appeal. a practical 4-star city hotel near Omonia, scored for what it is.

Novotel Athenes is a practical 4-star city hotel rather than a polished Athens retreat. It’s a good pick if you prioritize helpful staff, a substantial breakfast and rooftop Acropolis views over a picturesque address. Expedia guests generally praise cleanliness and service, while Booking.com’s overall verdict is more restrained. Free parking and a complimentary shuttle toward Syntagma add useful value.

The neighborhood is the biggest compromise: guests repeatedly describe feeling uncomfortable walking back at night. Recent Accor reviews also flag aging rooms, with several October guests reporting overheated bedrooms after cooling was switched off seasonally. The rooftop pool is seasonal, and Accor lists the Clair de Lune rooftop restaurant as closed from October 4, 2026, through May 31, 2027. We’d skip it for romantic evening strolls or reliably modern four-star comfort.

• Best for: value-minded city-break travelers; drivers needing free parking; families comfortable using taxis or the shuttle

• Watch out for: recurring discomfort with the surrounding streets at night; aging rooms and recent seasonal cooling complaints; seasonal pool and current rooftop restaurant closure

• Location: Metro access is useful, but the surrounding neighborhood draws repeated complaints; some guests choose taxis after dark.

• Rooms: Functional accommodation with family options, but recent guests repeatedly mention dated interiors and some report overheating.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive overall, with stronger cleanliness ratings on Expedia than Booking.com.

• Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, although individual service experiences vary.

• Amenities: Seasonal rooftop pool, gym, free parking and Syntagma-area shuttle; Clair de Lune restaurant is currently unavailable.

• Fees and surprises: Accommodation tax is collected at the property; breakfast may cost extra, and pets incur a surcharge.
