Axel's take: 7.9/10

Choose it for the central address and helpful staff, not consistently polished luxury. a traditional five-star city hotel on Syntagma Square, scored for what it is.

NJV Athens Plaza is a traditional five-star city hotel whose strongest luxury is its Syntagma Square address. It’s a good pick for sightseeing, shopping and metro access, with Plaka an easy walk away. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms; breakfast also earns plenty of approval. An explicitly booked Acropolis-view room adds a compelling reason to choose it.

The hesitation is consistency. The hotel announced 70 renovated rooms in March 2025, but guests still report dated furnishings in some rooms, so confirm the category and condition before booking. Street noise can reach lower floors, and there’s no hotel pool; gym access is off-site. We’d choose it for a convenient, service-led city stay, but skip it if quiet surroundings or uniformly fresh five-star interiors are essential.

• Best for: first-time Athens sightseers; travelers prioritizing metro and shopping access; couples booking an Acropolis-view room

• Watch out for: uneven room condition despite partial renovation; street noise on lower floors; no hotel pool; off-site gym

• Location: Excellent Syntagma Square base near the metro, Parliament, shopping and the walk to Plaka.

• Rooms: Comfort and views draw praise, but room sizes and refurbishment standards vary by category.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com guest feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring positive, despite occasional reports of inconsistent handling.

• Amenities: Restaurant, café, bar and room service; no hotel pool, with gym access off-site.

• Fees and surprises: Seasonal accommodation tax is collected locally; breakfast may cost extra, and nearby parking is paid.
