Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong central Athens choice, with rooftop views that earn their billing. a modern five-star city hotel near Syntagma Square, scored for what it is.

Electra Metropolis is a modern five-star city hotel near Syntagma Square, and we'd choose it for sightseeing with proper comfort between outings. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms, helpful staff and the rooftop breakfast overlooking the Acropolis. Its strongest selling point is the combination: walkable access to Plaka, a dependable luxury base and a rooftop restaurant worth spending time in.

The trade-offs are mostly about space and quiet. Guests regularly describe the rooftop pool as small, with limited loungers, and several report street noise despite the advertised soundproofing. Not every room has an Acropolis view, so book that category explicitly if it matters. The hotel also requires appointments for the indoor pool and gym. We'd skip it for a pool-focused holiday; light sleepers should request a quieter room.

• Best for: first-time Athens sightseeing; couples wanting rooftop Acropolis views; travelers prioritizing central comfort

• Watch out for: street noise in some rooms; small rooftop pool and limited loungers; indoor pool and gym require appointments

• Location: Near Syntagma Square, with Plaka, shopping and restaurants within easy walking reach.

• Rooms: Comfortable and well equipped; Classic doubles are 25 square meters, and Acropolis views require a specific category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major booking-site ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff receive repeated praise, with occasional lapses rather than a broad negative pattern.

• Amenities: Rooftop restaurant, weather-dependent outdoor pool, spa and indoor pool; gym and indoor swimming require appointments.

• Fees and surprises: A seasonal accommodation tax is collected at the property; check whether breakfast is included.
