#2 of 9 hotels in Kolonaki by Axel's take. Kolonaki is #4 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Kolonaki, ranked · Where to stay in Athens
Axel's take: 9.1/10
A convincing luxury reinvention, with standout pools but an unfinished rooftop. a newly rebuilt 5-star city resort in the former Hilton Athens, scored for what it is.
This is a 5-star city resort rather than a doorstep-to-the-Acropolis hotel. Reopened as a Conrad in April 2026, the former Hilton Athens makes a strong case for staying outside the busiest sightseeing streets. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests broadly agree on the strengths: spacious, beautifully finished rooms, comfortable beds, impressive pools and genuinely attentive staff. We'd pick it for a longer Athens stay where swimming, workouts and downtime matter alongside the sights.
The main caveat is that the transformation isn't entirely finished: an October review still lists the Galaxy rooftop bar as forthcoming, following September reports of construction there. Service attracts occasional criticism, but praise substantially outweighs complaints. Plaka requires a longer walk or transport, so we'd skip it for a short, sightseeing-only visit—or if rooftop cocktails are essential.
-
Best for: luxury travelers who prioritize pools and wellness; families wanting spacious accommodation; longer Athens stays
-
Watch out for: Galaxy rooftop bar opening still unconfirmed; not in the main ancient-sights district; parking and breakfast can cost extra
-
Location: Ilisia, beside the National Gallery; metro stations nearby, but Plaka is a substantial walk.
-
Rooms: Spacious, newly redesigned accommodation; many rooms have balconies, with Acropolis views in selected categories.
-
Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent guest feedback, with excellent cleanliness ratings.
-
Service: Warm, helpful staff receive consistent praise, alongside occasional lapses in coordination and replenishment.
-
Amenities: Large outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, extensive gym and wellness facilities; Galaxy rooftop bar still forthcoming in October reporting.
-
Fees and surprises: Seasonal accommodation tax is collected locally; parking, pets and breakfast may incur extra charges.
