Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical self-catering base, provided you rent a car and expect basic comforts. a simple 3-star apartment hotel near Aruba’s airport, scored for what it is.

Agua Clara is a simple 3-star apartment hotel near the airport, not a beach resort. It’s a good pick for budget-minded travelers who want a kitchen and somewhere quiet between outings. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff; the hotel’s website confirms kitchens and a saltwater pool. We’d choose it for independent exploring rather than a pampered holiday.

The compromises are real: beaches and restaurants are best reached by car, while recent Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews flag dated furnishings, maintenance niggles and inconsistent housekeeping. Expedia also lists no heated water, a card-payment surcharge and limited reception hours, so confirm arrival arrangements beforehand. Skip it if hot showers, daily servicing or walking straight onto the beach are essential.

• Best for: budget-minded travelers with a rental car; self-catering couples and families

• Watch out for: car needed for convenient exploring; no heated water listed; limited housekeeping and reception hours

• Location: Near the airport in residential Morgenster; not a walkable beach base.

• Rooms: Kitchens and air conditioning; furnishings can feel dated.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised recently, though housekeeping frequency draws complaints.

• Service: Helpful staff receive regular praise; arrange arrival in advance.

• Amenities: Saltwater pool, kitchens and free parking; modest rather than resort-style.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a deposit, a 4.2% card surcharge and no heated water.
