Axel's take: 7.6/10

Helpful staff and good breakfasts outweigh tired rooms, but renovations warrant checking ahead. a practical 4-star business hotel near Republic Square, scored for what it is.

Holiday Inn Almaty is a practical 4-star business hotel, not a luxury retreat. It’s a good pick for meetings and straightforward city stays, with Forum Mall nearby and Republic Square about a ten-minute walk away. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and breakfast. Cleanliness is generally well rated, and the restaurant, gym and free parking cover the essentials.

The main compromise is room condition: reviews across several sites still describe old carpets, furniture and bathrooms. Renovations are also underway: IHG flags daytime work on the ninth floor, while Hotels.com lists selected-room renovations through December 31, 2026, subject to change. Confirm the work schedule and request an updated room away from it. We’d skip it for a polished luxury stay or dependable daytime quiet; there’s no pool, either.

Best for: business travelers; city stays prioritizing service over style; travelers wanting nearby shopping
Watch out for: daytime ninth-floor renovation work; dated rooms and carpets; no swimming pool
Location: Near Forum Mall and Republic Square; IHG puts the nearest metro about 15 minutes away on foot.
Rooms: Practical accommodation, but dated furniture, carpets and bathrooms recur in recent reviews.
Cleanliness: Generally positive guest feedback, despite visible wear in older rooms.
Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a consistent strength across review sites.
Amenities: Restaurant, bar, gym, free Wi-Fi and complimentary limited parking; no pool.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra unless included; early check-in may incur a fee; room renovations are listed through December 31, 2026.
