#3 of 9 hotels in Old Town by Axel's take. Old Town is #1 of 6 places to stay in Albuquerque. The best hotels in Old Town, ranked · Where to stay in Albuquerque
Axel's take: 8.8/10
A strong Route 66 stop with clean rooms, character and genuinely helpful staff. A renovated 2-star Route 66 motel near Old Town, scored for what it is.
The Monterey is a renovated 2-star motor court that delivers more personality than a standard budget stop. We'd pick it for a Route 66 road trip or an Old Town visit: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. The retro styling feels considered rather than tired, and the MoMo Lounge doubles as the check-in desk. Free parking adds practical value.
The trade-offs are mostly motel ones: exterior room entrances, possible traffic and evening bar noise, and fewer services than a conventional hotel. Light sleepers should request a room away from Central Avenue and the lounge. The outdoor swimming pool is seasonal; Expedia lists it closed October 15–April 30. We'd skip it if you need winter swimming or a reliably hushed setting, but it's a very good pick for travelers who want simple comfort with character.
