Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong downtown choice for comfortable rooms, historic character and Capitol convenience. a historic, upscale full-service hotel beside the State Capitol, scored for what it is.

This historic, upscale full-service hotel is a strong pick for Albany business trips and downtown events. The former DeWitt Clinton combines a grand lobby with contemporary rooms, and its connection to Albany Capital Center is genuinely useful. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and generous room sizes; recent Tripadvisor feedback also highlights helpful staff. Wellington’s gives you a well-liked restaurant and bar without leaving the building.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: parking and breakfast cost extra, and Marriott says there is no airport shuttle or EV charging. A few recent guests report slow responses to requests or minor maintenance shortcomings, rather than a broad pattern of poor upkeep. Renovations were documented in 2025, but their current status is unclear, so confirm before booking if disruption matters. We'd choose it for downtown convenience, not an all-inclusive amenity package.

• Best for: Capitol and government business; Albany Capital Center attendees; Downtown event weekends

• Watch out for: Parking and breakfast cost extra; No airport shuttle or EV charging; Confirm renovation status before booking

• Location: Beside the State Capitol, connected to Albany Capital Center and walkable to MVP Arena.

• Rooms: Spacious, contemporary rooms and comfortable beds draw steady praise; occasional minor maintenance complaints.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, with occasional reports of slow follow-through.

• Amenities: Wellington’s restaurant and bar, fitness center and room service; no airport shuttle or EV charging.

• Fees and surprises: Paid parking and breakfast; Wi-Fi conditions depend on booking and membership; renovation completion is unconfirmed.
