Flight Price Dropped After You Booked?

By Axel Editorial Team · Updated

You can add a flight you booked somewhere else to Axel, and Axel will keep watching its price. If the fare drops on American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest or United, Axel asks the airline to apply the difference to your ticket, usually as airline credit in the traveler's name. Members ($15 first month, then $10/month) keep 100% of what Axel recovers; without Membership, Axel's fee is 25% of the amount saved.

How To Add A Booking You Made Elsewhere

Go to your bookings at helloaxel.com/bookings and choose Add a booking. There are two ways in:

  • Connect Gmail. Axel finds your flight confirmations in your inbox and adds them to My Bookings.
  • Forward the confirmation. Verify the email address you will forward from, then forward the full airline or travel-site confirmation to Axel. Any email provider works.

Make sure Post-booking savings is turned on in Settings.

Which Flights Axel Can Reprice

Axel watches flights on six airlines: American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest and United. A booking can't be repriced when:

  • It is the airline's cheapest fare that can't be changed, such as Basic Economy, Delta Main Basic, JetBlue Blue Basic or Alaska Saver.
  • It is an award ticket booked with miles or points.
  • One ticket mixes flights on different airlines.
  • The flight has already departed, or the booking was cancelled.

Very small drops aren't worth a request to the airline, so Axel skips them.

What Happens When The Price Drops

Axel checks the current price of your exact flights and fare type. When it finds a lower price, Axel asks the airline to apply the difference to your existing ticket. Axel never changes your itinerary without your approval.

If the airline accepts, you usually receive airline credit in the traveler's name. A refund to your original card is less common. Axel lets you know when a credit is secured.

If the airline says no, nothing changes. Your booking stays as it is.

When Repricing Usually Doesn't Work

  • The lower price is for a different fare type, for example a nonrefundable fare when you hold a refundable one.
  • A travel agency or another third party sold the ticket. Some airlines will only adjust a ticket through whoever sold it.
  • The drop is too small to be worth a request.

Repricing isn't guaranteed. The outcome depends on the airline, the fare rules and the booking details.

What It Costs

Every traveler gets repricing. Members ($15 for the first month, then $10 per month, cancel anytime) keep 100% of what Axel recovers, with no fee; without Membership, Axel's fee is 25% of the amount saved.

Hotels Booked Elsewhere

Adding a booking works for flights. For a hotel you booked somewhere else, Axel can show you a better rate if one turns up. You decide whether to book it, and you cancel the original booking yourself if it makes sense.

Can Axel get money back on a flight I booked on another site?

Yes, if it's an eligible fare on American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest or United. Add the booking to Axel, and Axel works to recover the difference when the price drops. Tickets sold by travel agencies are harder to reprice.

Do I get cash or airline credit?

Usually airline credit in the traveler's name. A refund to your original card is less common.

Is repricing guaranteed?

No. Repricing depends on airline rules and acceptance.

Does repricing cost extra?

Not for Members: with Axel Membership ($15 first month, then $10/month) you keep 100% of what Axel recovers. Without Membership, Axel's fee is 25% of the amount saved.

Can Axel reprice a Basic Economy ticket?

No. The cheapest fares that can't be changed, like Basic Economy, can't be repriced.
