#2 of 6 hotels in Maxwell & Oistins by Axel's take. Maxwell & Oistins is #5 of 6 places to stay in Barbados. The best hotels in Maxwell & Oistins, ranked · Where to stay in Barbados

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong-value oceanfront base, provided you prefer practicality to polish. a relaxed 3-star oceanfront hotel with self-catering studios, scored for what it is.

Butterfly Beach is a relaxed 3-star oceanfront hotel that makes a strong case for keeping Barbados simple. We'd choose it for the seaside decks, self-catering studios and easy bus access to Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms and welcoming staff. Two pools, including an adults-only option, give it more flexibility than a basic beach hotel.

The compromises are uneven room condition and restaurant service: some guests describe tired furnishings, while others enjoy updated accommodation. Check the exact category; not every room has a kitchenette. The two beaches are small and the sea can be choppy, so we'd skip it if calm swimming or a broad sandy beachfront is essential. Expect a separate government room levy, and confirm the incidental-deposit arrangements before arrival.

Best for: value-minded couples; travelers who want to self-cater; independent south-coast exploring
Watch out for: uneven room condition; small beaches and sometimes choppy water; inconsistent restaurant service
Location: Oceanfront in Maxwell, with convenient public transport toward Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap.
Rooms: Generally spacious; décor varies, and kitchenette facilities depend on the category booked.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent feedback, despite occasional exceptions.
Service: Mostly welcoming and helpful, with recurring inconsistencies in restaurant service.
Amenities: Two pools, three whirlpools, seaside restaurant, small fitness room, free Wi-Fi and guest laundry.
Fees and surprises: Government room levy payable locally; food-and-beverage levy also applies, and an incidental deposit is required.
