Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong budget base near the Strip, not a full resort experience. A budget motel-style hotel beside an off-Strip casino, scored for what it is.

Ellis Island is a budget motel-style hotel beside a casino, roughly a 15-minute walk from the Strip. We'd pick it for practical comfort and good value rather than Vegas spectacle. Booking.com guests praise the location and value, while recent Expedia reviews repeatedly describe clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Dining and gaming next door give it more appeal than a basic roadside motel.

The trade-offs are straightforward: some guests still find it dated, the pool is small, and a nightly resort fee plus a refundable deposit complicate the budget proposition. The hotel's expansion page still flags a Village Pub & Café and lounge remodel; confirm the work schedule and dining access before arrival. It's a strong pick for travelers who prioritize a comfortable base over polished surroundings; we'd skip it for a pool-centered vacation.

• Best for: Budget-minded Vegas visitors; Travelers prioritizing dining and gaming over resort luxury

• Watch out for: Nightly resort fee and refundable deposit.; Small pool, not a resort-style pool complex.; Confirm Village Pub & Café and lounge remodeling status.

• Location: Off-Strip on Koval Lane, approximately 15 minutes from the Strip on foot.

• Rooms: The hotel advertises renovated rooms; recent guests praise the beds, though some still describe dated decor.

• Cleanliness: Clean rooms are a consistent strength in recent Expedia feedback and Booking.com guest comments.

• Service: Recent Expedia feedback is largely positive; Tripadvisor includes less consistent front-desk experiences.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, hot tub, dining and an adjacent casino; the hotel also advertises the open Deck rooftop bar.

• Fees and surprises: Resort fee and card deposit apply; parking is included. Confirm restaurant and lounge renovation disruption.
