Axel's take: 8.1/10

Strong for station convenience and friendly service, less convincing for quiet nights. a practical 3-star city hotel opposite Yogyakarta’s main railway station, scored for what it is.

Neo Malioboro is a practical 3-star city hotel, and a strong pick if you want easy train connections and Malioboro’s shops and food within walking distance. Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and the breakfast spread. The pool and rooftop Sky Lounge add welcome downtime between sightseeing trips; overall, it delivers good comfort and convenience for its class.

The station is also its biggest drawback: train horns recur in reviews, including overnight disturbance. Request a room away from the tracks, but don’t count on silence. Cleanliness feedback is mostly positive, although some 2025–2026 guests describe musty smells, tired bathrooms or housekeeping misses. We’d choose it for a busy sightseeing stay rather than a peaceful retreat; light sleepers should look elsewhere.

  • Best for: travelers arriving by train; Malioboro shopping and sightseeing; families wanting a central hotel with a pool

  • Watch out for: overnight train horns; some reports of mustiness and tired bathrooms; limited parking space

  • Location: Opposite the railway station and a short walk from Malioboro; convenient but noisy.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, though some guests find rooms small or tired; request one away from the station.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive ratings, with some recent mustiness, bathroom-cleaning and linen complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across review sites.

  • Amenities: Pool, children’s pool, restaurant, rooftop lounge and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast is included; Expedia lists free self-parking, but guests report limited space.
