Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical downtown base with welcoming staff, good breakfast and some tired edges. A no-frills budget chain hotel in the Central Business District, scored for what it is.

This budget Holiday Inn Express is a good pick if you want a walkable downtown base rather than a hotel to linger in. The French Quarter and Superdome are within walking distance, and included hot breakfast adds useful value. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, while room-cleanliness feedback is mostly positive. We'd choose it for a sightseeing trip where location and the basics matter most.

The compromise is condition: guests across sites describe dated furnishings and rooms that can feel compact. The outdoor pool is a bonus on paper, but cleanliness complaints appear on both Expedia and Trip.com, so we wouldn't book around it. Self-parking costs extra and spaces are limited. Skip it if you want freshly updated rooms, generous space or a dependable pool-centered stay.

• Best for: Budget-conscious sightseers; Fans attending Superdome events; Travelers who value included breakfast

• Watch out for: Dated furnishings and compact rooms; Recurring pool-cleanliness complaints; Paid parking with limited spaces

• Location: Walkable Central Business District base for the French Quarter and Superdome.

• Rooms: Functional rather than fresh; compact layouts and worn furnishings recur in feedback.

• Cleanliness: Room feedback is mostly positive, but pool upkeep is less consistent.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a consistent strength in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool and a 24-hour fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking carries a daily charge, plus tax; spaces are limited.
