#3 of 9 hotels in Old Town & Niederdorf by Axel's take. Old Town & Niederdorf is #1 of 9 places to stay in Zurich. The best hotels in Old Town & Niederdorf, ranked · Where to stay in Zurich

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong Old Town base, with helpful staff and compact rooms. A comfortable, independent 3-star in Zurich’s lively Old Town, scored for what it is.

Hotel Alexander is an independent 3-star that gets the city-break essentials right: a walkable Old Town address, clean rooms and genuinely helpful service. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff, breakfast and convenience for the main station, restaurants and sightseeing. We’d put it firmly on the shortlist for a short Zurich stay. Included breakfast and a complimentary first minibar filling are useful extras rather than luxury trimmings.

The trade-off is space and bustle. Smaller rooms can feel tight for two, and the surrounding nightlife is audible with windows open, although many guests report quiet stays with them closed. Ask for a courtyard-facing room if sleep matters most. It’s a strong pick for travelers spending their days exploring; we’d skip it if you want generous rooms or a reliably hushed setting.

  • Best for: First-time Zurich visitors; Car-free city breaks; Couples and solo sightseers

  • Watch out for: Compact smaller room categories; Nightlife noise with windows open; Paid parking requires advance arrangements

  • Location: Central Niederdorf setting, walkable to the main station, sights and plentiful restaurants.

  • Rooms: Functional, compact rooms; the hotel advertises air-conditioning and soundproof windows.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently praised across Booking.com and Expedia, including recent stays.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a recurring highlight across sources.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi included; the first minibar filling is complimentary.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and airport transfers cost extra; reserve parking ahead and confirm room size.
