Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical airport stopover, but dated rooms keep it from standing out. a full-service 4-star airport hotel in Opfikon, scored for what it is.

Hilton Zurich Airport is a full-service 4-star best used before or after a flight, rather than as a Zurich sightseeing base. We'd consider it for comfortable beds, generally spacious rooms and a short airport transfer. Expedia and Booking.com guests regularly praise helpful staff and cleanliness, while breakfast and the runway-view restaurant add appeal. Recent Tripadvisor guests also welcome the refreshed public areas.

The bedrooms haven't uniformly caught up: dated decor, worn carpets and occasional maintenance problems recur in reviews. Service is often friendly, but requests and restaurant meals can be slow; housekeeping also draws some inconsistent reports, despite broadly positive cleanliness ratings. The airport shuttle costs extra, as does parking, and breakfast isn't necessarily included. We'd skip it for a polished four-star getaway or a city break where walking straight into central Zurich matters.

• Best for: overnight airport stopovers; business travelers; Hilton Honors members

• Watch out for: dated rooms and uneven maintenance; shuttle and parking charges; less convenient for central Zurich

• Location: A short drive from the airport, but outside central Zurich and not connected to the terminals.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; dated furnishings and worn carpets remain recurring complaints.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive across booking sites, with some recent housekeeping lapses reported on Tripadvisor.

• Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, though responsiveness and restaurant service can be uneven.

• Amenities: Runway-view restaurant, bar, gym and executive lounge; lounge access depends on booking or eligibility.

• Fees and surprises: Airport shuttle and parking are chargeable; check whether breakfast and lounge access are included.
