Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable central base, with strong service but noise and renovation trade-offs. a historic 4-star city hotel beside Zurich’s main station, scored for what it is.

Central Plaza is a historic 4-star that earns its keep through convenience rather than luxury. Across the Limmat from Zurich’s main station, it makes train arrivals, Old Town walks and tram connections unusually easy. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff; the piano bar and King’s Cave restaurant give it more character than a purely functional station hotel. It’s a strong pick for a short city break or rail-based trip.

The compromises are room size, some dated fittings and noise: recent guests on several sites mention traffic, trams or construction. The hotel confirms Central Garten is closed for renovation until spring 2027; ask about work affecting your room before booking. Cooling is described as partial air-conditioning, not full-strength AC. We’d skip it if spacious, consistently quiet rooms matter more than being central.

• Best for: travelers arriving by train; short Old Town sightseeing breaks; business travelers prioritizing connections

• Watch out for: tram, traffic and construction noise; Central Garten closed until spring 2027; some compact rooms and partial air-conditioning

• Location: Main station a 3–5-minute walk away, with trams outside and Old Town nearby.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well equipped, but some are compact or dated; cooling is partial.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive repeated praise across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Piano bar, King’s Cave restaurant and advertised free external gym access; Central Garten remains closed.

• Fees and surprises: City tax is billed separately; garage parking and EV charging cost extra, and parking should be reserved.
