#5 of 9 hotels in Old Town & Niederdorf by Axel's take. Old Town & Niederdorf is #1 of 9 places to stay in Zurich. The best hotels in Old Town & Niederdorf, ranked · Where to stay in Zurich

Axel's take: 8.3/10

Friendly service and generous extras make this a strong Old Town base, with noise caveats. A small, family-run 3-star in Zurich’s Old Town, scored for what it is.

Zürcherhof is a family-run, 39-room 3-star in Zurich’s Old Town, roughly a ten-minute walk from the main station. It’s a strong pick for sightseeing without paying for luxury facilities. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and breakfast, including made-to-order eggs. Included minibar drinks add genuine value, and the central setting makes a car unnecessary.

The compromises are space, heat and potential noise. Some rooms and showers are tight, and the lift is small. There’s no built-in air conditioning; some guests received portable units, but don’t assume one is guaranteed. Nightlife can disturb street-facing rooms. September 2026 guests also reported road construction, while the city schedules Zähringerstrasse and Häringstrasse works through late 2027. We’d skip it for a reliably quiet summer stay; otherwise, it delivers well for its class.

  • Best for: Car-free sightseeing breaks; Couples and solo travelers; Travelers who appreciate breakfast and included extras

  • Watch out for: No built-in air conditioning; Compact rooms, showers and lift; Nightlife noise and nearby street construction

  • Location: Walkable Old Town setting near the main station, restaurants and tram connections; nighttime noise varies.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable and well kept, but sizes vary; some showers are cramped and cooling is limited.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guest feedback.

  • Service: Warm, helpful reception and attentive breakfast staff attract repeated praise.

  • Amenities: Breakfast, minibar drinks and Wi-Fi included; 24-hour reception, but no pool or fitness center.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax and airport transfers cost extra; street works were reported in September 2026, with local upgrades scheduled through late 2027.
