#1 of 9 hotels in Mariahilf & Mariahilfer Strasse by Axel's take. Mariahilf & Mariahilfer Strasse is #4 of 10 places to stay in Vienna. The best hotels in Mariahilf & Mariahilfer Strasse, ranked · Where to stay in Vienna

Axel's take: 9.2/10

Distinctive design, genuinely warm service and excellent transport links make MOTTO a standout boutique. an upscale 4-star boutique hotel on Vienna’s main shopping street, scored for what it is.

Hotel MOTTO is an upscale 4-star boutique on Mariahilfer Straße, and a strong pick for travelers who want character without sacrificing comfort. Recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff. The Parisian-inspired interiors have personality, while Neubaugasse U3 is practically at the door. Chez Bernard and the rooftop terrace make staying in for dinner or drinks an appealing option.

The compromises are mostly practical: entry-level Petit rooms are genuinely small, some bathroom layouts use curtains rather than full separation, and rooms have no desks. Breakfast is extra and the popular restaurant needs reservations; conventional delivered room service is absent. We'd skip it for a work-heavy stay or if bathroom privacy matters more than design, but for a couples’ city break it delivers unusually well.

  • Best for: couples on a city break; design-conscious travelers; shopping and museum weekends

  • Watch out for: compact Petit rooms; limited bathroom separation in some layouts; breakfast extra; restaurant reservations recommended

  • Location: Shopping and cafés outside, U3 next door and MuseumsQuartier within walking distance; entrance on Schadekgasse.

  • Rooms: Comfortable, individually styled rooms; Petit categories are 15–19 m², and no rooms have desks.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest reviews, backed by high cleanliness ratings.

  • Service: Warm, helpful reception staff earn repeated praise across several review sites.

  • Amenities: Chez Bernard, seasonal rooftop terrace, bakery, small gym, sauna and steam bath.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast, nearby public parking, pet stays and airport transfers cost extra; restaurant food is collected rather than delivered.
