#3 of 9 hotels in Neubau & Spittelberg by Axel's take. Neubau & Spittelberg is #3 of 10 places to stay in Vienna. The best hotels in Neubau & Spittelberg, ranked · Where to stay in Vienna

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A stylish museum-quarter base with excellent breakfast and genuinely welcoming service. a design-led 4-star boutique hotel beside Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, scored for what it is.

Hotel Gilbert is a design-led 4-star boutique beside the MuseumsQuartier, and we'd put it high on the list for a Vienna city break. Its plant-filled interiors have personality without sacrificing comfort. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds, helpful staff and unusually good breakfast. Strong overall ratings across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor back up that impression. The gym, sauna and &flora restaurant give this small hotel more substance than looks alone.

Choose the room category carefully: doubles range from compact to comfortably spacious, and several guests flag limited space in the smaller options. Light sleepers should request a room away from the lift; one recent Tripadvisor guest specifically reported mechanical noise. We'd choose Gilbert for museums, neighborhood restaurants and exploring on foot, but skip the smallest rooms for a long stay with plenty of luggage.

  • Best for: couples on a cultural city break; design-minded travelers; museum visits and exploring on foot

  • Watch out for: compact entry-level doubles; occasional lift noise; paid public parking nearby

  • Location: Beside MuseumsQuartier and Spittelberg, with Volkstheater U-Bahn and central sights within easy reach.

  • Rooms: Comfortable, contemporary rooms; official double-room sizes range from 18 to 29 square meters.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest reviews and major-site category ratings.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise, despite occasional individual complaints.

  • Amenities: Well-equipped 24-hour gym, sauna, free Wi-Fi, &flora restaurant and bar, and bicycle rental.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; nearby public parking and bicycle rental cost extra.
