#6 of 9 hotels in Cannaregio by Axel's take. Cannaregio is #3 of 8 places to stay in Venice. The best hotels in Cannaregio, ranked · Where to stay in Venice

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong choice for easy arrivals, with Venetian character and some compact rooms. a classic Venetian 4-star beside Santa Lucia train station, scored for what it is.

NH Venezia Santa Lucia is a classic Venetian 4-star whose biggest advantage is making arrival easy: Santa Lucia station and the Ferrovia water buses are close by. It’s a strong pick for a short stay, combining traditional interiors with rooms the hotel says were renovated in 2023. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness and breakfast; selected rooms add Grand Canal views.

The trade-off is space and setting rather than a widespread problem with the basics. Several guests find rooms or bathrooms small, and the busy station-side streets can bring crowds and occasional noise. Check the room category carefully: canal views and balconies are not universal. We’d skip it if generous rooms or a quieter setting near St. Mark’s matter more than convenient transport. Breakfast may cost extra, and city tax is collected separately.

  • Best for: travelers arriving by train; short Venice stays; couples wanting classic Venetian interiors

  • Watch out for: some compact rooms and bathrooms; busy surroundings and occasional street noise; canal views require the right room category

  • Location: Excellent for Santa Lucia station and Ferrovia water buses; less convenient for being based beside St. Mark’s.

  • Rooms: Venetian-style rooms renovated in 2023, according to NH; size varies, and only selected categories have views or balconies.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall: recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, despite occasional negative reports elsewhere.

  • Service: Helpful reception staff draw consistent recent praise, with a few Tripadvisor reports of uneven service.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet, Canaletto bar, free Wi-Fi and luggage storage; dining is centered on breakfast and bar snacks.

  • Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast is included; city tax is payable at the property, and there is no hotel parking.
