#9 of 9 hotels in Dorsoduro by Axel's take. Dorsoduro is #4 of 8 places to stay in Venice. The best hotels in Dorsoduro, ranked · Where to stay in Venice

Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong-value Venice base, with a peaceful courtyard but basic rooms. A simple budget guesthouse in a former monastery in central Venice, scored for what it is.

Domus Ciliota is a simple budget guesthouse in a former monastery, and we'd pick it for sightseeing rather than spending hours in the room. Its quiet San Marco side street puts the Accademia and St. Mark's Square within easy walking distance. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, generally clean rooms and breakfast in the enclosed courtyard. For travelers who prioritize location over polished interiors, it's good value.

The compromises are mostly inside: rooms are functional, sometimes small or dated, and several guests across sites report thin walls. Air conditioning also draws recurring complaints about weak cooling or rooms staying too warm. Breakfast earns more praise than criticism, but don't expect an elaborate spread. We'd skip it if soundproofing, reliably cool sleeping conditions or stylish rooms are essential.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious sightseers; Solo travelers; Couples happy with simple rooms

  • Watch out for: Thin walls and neighboring-room noise; Inconsistent air-conditioning performance; Some small or dated rooms

  • Location: Quiet San Marco side street, convenient for the Accademia, waterbus stops and major sights.

  • Rooms: Basic, practical rooms with private bathrooms; size and condition vary.

  • Cleanliness: Broadly positive recent feedback, with occasional bathroom and maintenance complaints.

  • Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring strength; reception has limited hours.

  • Amenities: Continental breakfast, enclosed courtyard, free Wi-Fi and luggage storage.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax is collected separately; confirm cooling availability and step-free access before booking.
