Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong downtown base with excellent staff, but choose your room carefully. a full-service 4-star business hotel near Coal Harbour, scored for what it is.

This full-service 4-star near Coal Harbour is a strong pick for cruise departures, convention trips and exploring downtown on foot. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and convenient location near Canada Place and the seawall. The indoor lap pool, hot tub and gym add substance beyond the address, while harbour-view rooms give you a reason to linger upstairs.

The catch is uneven room condition. Marriott advertises renovated Superior rooms, and recent Tripadvisor guests distinguish those from older, tired accommodation; we'd choose the refreshed category rather than assume every room has been updated. Parking costs extra, and complimentary in-room Wi-Fi comes with direct-booking and Bonvoy conditions. We'd skip it if you want uniformly fresh interiors or luxury-level polish, but it's a dependable choice when location and service matter most.

• Best for: pre-cruise stays; convention and business travelers; sightseers exploring on foot

• Watch out for: older and renovated room categories; paid parking; conditions on complimentary in-room Wi-Fi

• Location: Convenient for Canada Place, the convention centre and Coal Harbour's seawall.

• Rooms: Comfortable overall; renovated Superior rooms are the safer choice for updated interiors.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent strength across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Indoor lap pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness centre and Showcase Restaurant & Bar.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets incur fees; Marriott confirms free in-room Wi-Fi for Bonvoy members booking direct.
