Axel's take: 8.4/10

A dependable Richmond stopover with helpful staff and comfortable rooms, but extras add up. a full-service 4-star airport hotel in central Richmond, scored for what it is.

Vancouver Airport Marriott is a full-service 4-star in central Richmond, not inside the airport or downtown Vancouver. It's a strong pick for a comfortable stopover: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Suites with separate living areas are useful for families, while nearby restaurants, shopping and the Canada Line make this more practical than an isolated airport hotel. The complimentary airport shuttle runs around the clock.

The trade-offs are mostly logistical rather than fundamental. Parking costs extra, and breakfast isn't automatically included. The pool is outdoors, so don't book expecting an indoor swim. Tripadvisor guests also describe reduced M Club food service on weekends; confirm arrangements if lounge access matters. We'd choose it for flights, business or Richmond dining, but stay downtown if central Vancouver sightseeing is the priority.

• Best for: airport stopovers; families booking suites; business travelers and Richmond dining

• Watch out for: parking and breakfast cost extra; outdoor pool, not indoor; reduced weekend M Club food service

• Location: Central Richmond, with restaurants, shopping and the Canada Line within walking distance; airport transfer required.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and modern bathrooms draw praise; suite layouts offer useful separation but vary in size.

• Cleanliness: Recent guest feedback is strongly positive about room and bathroom cleanliness.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff and efficient airport transfers are consistent strengths across review sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, whirlpool, 24-hour gym, 75 West Coast Grill and complimentary airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, standard breakfast and dog stays carry charges; call for airport pickup between 2 and 4 a.m.
