Axel's take: 8.2/10

Stylish rooms and standout staff, but nightlife can undermine a luxury night’s sleep. a design-forward 5-star hotel in Vancouver’s Parq casino complex, scored for what it is.

The DOUGLAS is a design-forward 5-star hotel within the Parq casino complex, beside BC Place and handy for Yaletown. It’s a strong pick for a concert weekend or a city break built around restaurants and nightlife. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. Wood-and-concrete interiors give it personality, while the rooftop park, dining options and access to the adjoining JW Marriott’s spa broaden the appeal.

The main reservation is sleep: Tripadvisor reports across 2025 and 2026 describe intrusive lobby-bar or nightclub bass, sometimes continuing until 3 a.m. That isn’t everyone’s experience, but it’s a meaningful drawback at this level. Request a high room away from D/6, without treating that as a guarantee. Parking costs extra, and the whirlpool isn’t a swimming pool. We’d skip it if quiet is non-negotiable.

• Best for: BC Place concerts and games; design-minded city breaks; restaurant and nightlife weekends

• Watch out for: late-night D/6 bass in some rooms; paid parking; whirlpool rather than a swimming pool

• Location: Beside BC Place, with Yaletown restaurants and waterfront walks nearby.

• Rooms: Distinctive modern interiors and comfortable beds; some guests find standard rooms and storage limited.

• Cleanliness: Strong recent feedback, with repeated praise for spotless rooms.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff are a consistent strength across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Rooftop park, casino, restaurants, fitness facilities and whirlpool; spa at the adjoining JW Marriott.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and valet cost extra; the hotel's own nightlife can disturb sleep.
