Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong downtown base for apartment space, with nightlife noise the main compromise. An upscale apartment hotel in downtown Vancouver, scored for what it is.

Level is an upscale apartment hotel rather than a conventional full-service four-star, and it's a strong pick if you'll use the extra space. Full kitchens and in-suite laundry make longer visits practical, while the outdoor heated pool, hot tub and well-equipped gym add appeal. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean suites and helpful staff; the overall ratings back up that positive picture.

The main compromise is nighttime noise from nearby clubs and downtown streets: request a higher floor, though quiet isn't guaranteed. Housekeeping isn't daily, and extra cleaning, parking and pets carry charges. Confirm the cleaning schedule before booking, as the official policy differs from some guests' descriptions. We'd choose it for a self-catered city stay, but skip it if silence and daily hotel servicing are priorities.

• Best for: Longer downtown stays; Families wanting kitchens and laundry; Self-catering business travelers

• Watch out for: Nightlife and street noise; Non-daily housekeeping; Parking and pet charges

• Location: Walkable downtown base near dining and shopping, roughly ten minutes from Yaletown–Roundhouse SkyTrain.

• Rooms: Spacious apartment-style suites with full kitchens and washer/dryers; higher floors are preferable for noise.

• Cleanliness: Strong cleanliness ratings across major sites, reinforced by recent guest feedback.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength, despite occasional check-in and follow-up complaints.

• Amenities: Outdoor heated pool, hot tub, substantial gym and sauna; kitchens and laundry are the practical standouts.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, pets and extra housekeeping cost more; confirm the included cleaning schedule and note the listed 10 a.m. checkout.
