Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong downtown value and dependable basics, but current renovations make daytime quiet unlikely. a no-frills downtown hotel with private rooms and mixed bathroom options, scored for what it is.

Hotel Willo is a no-frills downtown hotel, not a hostel, and a strong pick for travelers prioritizing cleanliness and location over full-service comforts. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. BC Place, Rogers Arena and SkyTrain are close, while communal kitchens and laundry make longer stays practical. It remains a YWCA social enterprise welcoming all travelers.

The biggest catch right now is hotel-wide renovation work, scheduled through April 2027. The hotel warns of weekday work from 7am and periodically significant noise from 11am to 5pm, plus occasional Saturdays. Bedrooms range from compact singles with hallway bathrooms to larger ensuite options, so check the exact category. Paid parking is limited and first-come, first-served. We'd choose it for an active city break, but skip it for daytime rest during construction.

Best for: budget-conscious city explorers; concert and sports visitors; self-catering travelers
Watch out for: renovation noise through April 2027; shared bathrooms in some room categories; limited paid parking
Location: Downtown by BC Place, with Rogers Arena, restaurants and SkyTrain within walking distance.
Rooms: Simple, comfortable rooms; size and private, semi-private or hallway bathrooms vary by category.
Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews, including shared bathrooms.
Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a recurring strength in guest feedback.
Amenities: Communal kitchens, laundry, free WiFi, fitness area and rooftop patio.
Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and is not guaranteed; hotel-wide renovations bring substantial daytime noise.
