Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong downtown choice with standout service, but room selection matters. An upscale 4-star boutique hotel in downtown Vancouver’s former stock exchange, scored for what it is.

EXchange is an upscale 4-star boutique hotel that makes a convincing case for staying in Vancouver’s business district. Waterfront Station and Canada Place are an easy walk away, making it especially handy before a cruise. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and comfortable beds. Heated bathroom floors and the building’s stock-exchange history give it more character than a standard business hotel.

The main caveat is room choice: entry-level studios are compact, while larger categories offer considerably more space. Several guests also report frustrating temperature controls; the geothermal system can require front-desk help. Parking costs extra, and breakfast inclusion depends on your booking. It’s a strong pick for a comfortable downtown base; we’d look elsewhere if precise bedroom temperature control is essential.

• Best for: Pre- and post-cruise stays; Car-free city breaks; Downtown business travelers

• Watch out for: Compact entry-level studios; Room-temperature controls can frustrate; Parking costs extra

• Location: Central business-district setting near Waterfront Station and Canada Place, not a beachfront hotel.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and heated bathroom floors; layouts and sizes vary substantially by category.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are one of the clearest recurring strengths.

• Amenities: Hydra restaurant and wine bar, a fitness center and in-room coffee facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets incur charges; check breakfast inclusion and ask for help with temperature settings.
