#5 of 9 hotels in Haymarket & Chinatown by Axel's take. Haymarket & Chinatown is #3 of 11 places to stay in Sydney. The best hotels in Haymarket & Chinatown, ranked · Where to stay in Sydney

Axel's take: 8.1/10

A dependable central base with helpful staff, though rooms show their age. A full-service, upper-mid-range business hotel in Sydney’s CBD, scored for what it is.

Rydges World Square is a large, upper-mid-range business hotel that makes Sydney easy rather than especially stylish. It’s a strong pick for sightseeing or work: restaurants and shops are downstairs, with trains and light rail close by. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful staff, while family room options broaden its appeal. The gym, restaurant and bar cover the practical extras.

The compromise is condition: several recent Expedia guests describe tired carpets, scuffed walls and dated bathrooms. More importantly, September 2026 guests on Tripadvisor and Expedia reported disruptive overnight construction around Pitt Street and World Square; management acknowledged unexpected street works. Check whether those works have finished and request an inward-facing room if noise matters. We’d skip it for fresh interiors or a reliably silent retreat.

  • Best for: Sightseers prioritizing transport and dining; CBD business travelers; Families wanting central room options

  • Watch out for: Recent overnight street-construction noise; Dated bathrooms and worn finishes; Parking and breakfast can cost extra

  • Location: Excellent practical CBD base, with World Square dining and shopping downstairs and stations nearby.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and useful room sizes, but recurring reports of dated bathrooms and worn finishes.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, with recent guests repeatedly praising clean rooms.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength, including assistance with room changes.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, gym, restaurant, bar and 24-hour room service; family and accessible rooms available.

  • Fees and surprises: Paid parking; breakfast depends on your package, and an incidentals deposit may apply. Confirm the status of nearby overnight works.
