Axel's take: 7.9/10
Come for the grounds and bay views, but expect uneven room standards. A historic 3-star estate resort above St Ives, with hotel rooms and self-catering accommodation, scored for what it is.
Tregenna Castle is a historic 3-star resort whose strongest assets sit outside the bedroom: 72 acres of gardens and woodland, views over St Ives Bay, and plenty for families to do. We'd pick it for a relaxed coastal break rather than a polished castle-hotel experience. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and setting; free parking is another practical advantage here.
The compromise is inconsistent accommodation. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews repeatedly describe dated furniture, tired bathrooms and maintenance niggles, although many guests still report comfortable stays. Check the exact room or apartment category rather than judging by the grand exterior. The walk into St Ives involves a steep return climb, so we'd skip it if easy, level access matters. The outdoor pool is currently closed seasonally until May 2027; the indoor pool remains available.
