Axel's take: 7.8/10

Big rooms and friendly staff make this aging casino hotel a solid short-stay pick. a mid-range riverfront casino hotel in downtown Shreveport, scored for what it is.

Sam’s Town is a mid-range riverfront casino hotel, and we’d choose it for spacious rooms and downtown convenience rather than polished surroundings. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise the generous bathrooms, clean rooms and helpful staff. Tripadvisor is more mixed, but also includes praise for quiet accommodation away from the gaming floor. For an adults’ casino break, it delivers good value without needing to feel luxurious.

The trade-off is age: dated furnishings and occasional maintenance shortcomings recur, while casino smoke will bother sensitive travelers. Self-parking is across the street, so unload your bags first. There’s also a nightly resort fee, and the published pool policy restricts access to guests 21 and older. We’d skip it for a family pool trip or if fresh interiors are essential; Bally’s recent acquisition is not evidence of a completed renovation.

Best for: adults on a casino weekend; travelers wanting spacious rooms; short downtown stays
Watch out for: dated interiors and uneven maintenance; casino smoke; resort fee and adults-only pool policy
Location: Red River setting near downtown attractions; self-parking requires crossing the street.
Rooms: Generously sized rooms and bathrooms; furnishings show their age.
Cleanliness: Recent booking-site reviews are largely positive, with some Tripadvisor reports of lapses.
Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength in recent guest feedback.
Amenities: Casino, dining, gym, spa and outdoor pool; published pool access is restricted to ages 21 and up.
Fees and surprises: Nightly resort fee and refundable deposit are listed; reconfirm policies following Bally’s August 2026 acquisition.
