Axel's take: 8.5/10

Warm service and sea views make this a strong pick despite aging rooms. a full-service 4-star business hotel on the Malecón, scored for what it is.

This full-service 4-star on the Malecón is a strong pick for travelers who want dependable comfort, sea views and a proper pool rather than boutique character. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the staff, cleanliness and breakfast buffet; the executive lounge also earns unusually consistent compliments. We'd choose it for a business trip or a city break with time to relax between outings.

The main compromise is room condition: several guests describe dated furniture and bathrooms, with occasional maintenance faults and noticeable differences between rooms. The waterfront setting is outside the Colonial Zone, not in its historic streets, and the busy road makes it feel more urban than resort-like. Confirm breakfast and lounge access in your booking. We'd skip it if fresh interiors or an old-town doorstep matter most.

• Best for: business travelers; city breaks with pool time; travelers considering club rooms

• Watch out for: dated, uneven room condition; busy waterfront road; breakfast and lounge access depend on booking

• Location: On the Malecón with Caribbean views; outside the Colonial Zone itself.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but recurring reports of aging bathrooms, furniture and minor maintenance faults.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, including repeated praise in recent verified Expedia reviews.

• Service: A standout overall, especially lounge staff, though check-in and problem handling receive some criticism.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, restaurant, bars and an executive lounge; Marriott confirms complimentary parking.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and lounge inclusions; early check-in and late checkout can incur charges.
