Axel's take: 7.5/10

Stay for the Colonial Zone location, but expect compact rooms and uneven upkeep. a simple 3-star city hotel in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, scored for what it is.

Novus Plaza Hodelpa is a simple 3-star city hotel whose biggest selling point is stepping straight into the Colonial Zone. We’d consider it for a short sightseeing stay: Calle El Conde, restaurants and historic sights are close, and Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff. This is a practical base for exploring, not a beachfront hotel or somewhere to spend the whole day.

The compromises are compact rooms, particularly tight bathrooms, and inconsistent maintenance. Recent guests mention malfunctioning keycards, refrigerators and bathroom fittings; street-facing rooms also attract recurring noise complaints. Cleanliness earns generally positive ratings, although several 2026 guests report pests, so consistency deserves caution. Breakfast divides opinion, and inclusion depends on your booking. We’d skip it if quiet sleep, spacious rooms or reliably polished facilities matter more than location.

• Best for: short Colonial Zone sightseeing stays; travelers exploring on foot; solo travelers comfortable with compact rooms

• Watch out for: nighttime noise in street-facing rooms; small bathrooms and uneven maintenance; several recent pest reports

• Location: Excellent for walking to Calle El Conde, Parque Colón, restaurants and historic sights; not beachfront.

• Rooms: Compact and air-conditioned, with recurring complaints about tight bathrooms, keycards and broken fittings.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, but several 2026 pest reports weaken confidence in consistency.

• Service: Friendly staff are a recurring strength; resolving problems receives more mixed feedback.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, El Patio restaurant and advertised gym access; recent guests question gym equipment condition.

• Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; confirm breakfast inclusion and charges for transfers or early check-in.
