#9 of 9 hotels in Zona Colonial by Axel's take. Zona Colonial is #1 of 5 places to stay in Santo Domingo. The best hotels in Zona Colonial, ranked · Where to stay in Santo Domingo

Axel's take: 6.9/10

A handy Colonial Zone base, but room upkeep is uneven. a basic budget 3-star beside Independence Park, scored for what it is.

Hotel Discovery is a basic budget 3-star beside Independence Park, with El Conde and the Colonial Zone sights within easy walking distance. It's a reasonable short-stay choice if location matters more than polish. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and value, while the small rooftop pool adds something beyond the basics.

The compromise is consistency. Rooms are dated and sometimes cramped; recent reviews across sites describe faulty air-conditioning, bathroom maintenance problems and uneven cleaning alongside perfectly satisfactory stays. Street noise also comes up. A May 2026 guest reported nearby construction disrupting access and mornings; whether that work continues is unconfirmed. We'd consider it for a budget sightseeing stop, but skip it for dependable quiet or reliably well-maintained rooms. Confirm breakfast inclusion and reconfirm your reservation: several guests report being relocated.

  • Best for: budget sightseeing trips; short stays near El Conde

  • Watch out for: uneven cleaning and room maintenance; street noise; nearby works reported in May 2026; reports of relocation to another hotel

  • Location: Beside Independence Park and close to El Conde; convenient for exploring the Colonial Zone on foot.

  • Rooms: Basic, aging rooms; recurring reports of small spaces, faulty air-conditioning and bathroom problems.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but recent complaints across sites show inconsistent housekeeping.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, though reservation handling draws some complaints.

  • Amenities: Small rooftop pool, terrace, restaurant, elevator and free Wi-Fi; free parking has limited spaces.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; late checkout carries a charge. Confirm reservation and current construction access.
