Axel's take: 8.3/10

A comfortable SoMa base with strong cleanliness, but fees weaken the value. an upscale, art-styled 4-star hotel in SoMa, scored for what it is.

The Clancy is an upscale, art-styled 4-star in SoMa, and we'd pick it for comfortable rooms and convenient access to Moscone, SFMOMA and Oracle Park. It's part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, not Courtyard. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff; Tripadvisor guests also highlight comfortable beds and welcoming bar service. The overall impression is a dependable city base with personality, rather than a luxury retreat.

The main catch is the extras: a mandatory daily destination fee and expensive valet parking make the value less convincing. The fee includes dining credit and activities, so check whether you'll actually use them. Service feedback is less consistent on Tripadvisor than Expedia, although recent praise outweighs the complaints. We'd skip it if you're bringing a car on a tight budget or expect full luxury service.

• Best for: Moscone business travelers; Oracle Park visitors; car-free city breaks

• Watch out for: Mandatory daily destination fee; Expensive valet-only parking; Some inconsistency in service feedback

• Location: Convenient SoMa base for SFMOMA, Moscone and Oracle Park; Montgomery BART is within walking distance.

• Rooms: Modern styling and comfortable beds earn praise; rooms include mini fridges and coffee makers.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reviews.

• Service: Recent guests often praise helpful staff and bar service, though Tripadvisor feedback is more mixed.

• Amenities: A 24-hour gym, restaurant and taproom, coffee shop and outdoor gathering spaces.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination fee includes dining credit and activities; valet parking, pets and breakfast can cost extra.
