Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong on design and cleanliness, but service needs more consistency at this level. a contemporary 5-star boutique hotel near Piazza Barberini, scored for what it is.

The Rome EDITION is a contemporary 5-star boutique hotel near Piazza Barberini, and a strong pick if you prefer understated design to palatial Roman grandeur. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the immaculate rooms, attractive interiors and helpful staff. The walkable setting puts the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain within easy reach, while the courtyard garden and rooftop bar give you reasons to linger at the hotel.

The reservation is consistency rather than comfort: alongside plentiful praise, recent reviews across both sites describe missed requests and uneven follow-through—meaningful shortcomings at this level. The rooftop plunge pool is currently listed by Marriott as seasonally closed, and several 2026 guests were disappointed by its availability. We'd choose it for a design-led city break, but skip it if swimming is essential or you expect faultless luxury service.

• Best for: design-conscious couples; walkable sightseeing breaks; travelers who prefer contemporary luxury

• Watch out for: rooftop plunge pool currently seasonally closed; occasional missed requests and service lapses; no on-site parking

• Location: Near Barberini metro, with the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain within walking distance.

• Rooms: Contemporary, understated interiors; guests generally praise comfort and condition.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength, with repeated praise and particularly strong Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Often warm and helpful, but missed requests recur across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Courtyard garden, rooftop bar, restaurant and gym; rooftop plunge pool currently listed as seasonally closed.

• Fees and surprises: City tax is payable locally; breakfast may cost extra depending on your booking, and parking is unavailable on-site.
